Lake Mille Lacs is among the world's top muskie fisheries and the 6th Annual Mille Lacs Muskie Tournament brings out the question, "Can the fishing get any better?" With the entire lake open to the event for the first time, it drew in a record 86 teams from around the region. Many of these anglers were anxious to brave the north end of Mille Lacs' rough waters in hopes of capitalizing on the fish that had never been exposed to a tournament before.

The results were quite impressive with 24 fish being registered in the two day event -- 2 of which were pike, 22 of which were muskies. This year's champions, Tim Gardner and Bob Nelson, caught 3 muskies in Vineland Bay. Tim landed the largest muskie ever registered in any muskie tournament -- a 56" x 25.5" monster.

With tournament results like these, we would have to refer to current times as "the good old days" of muskie fishing. The forecast looks even brighter.
