Fall 2005 MMTT Muskie Stocking ProgramPICTURESThe Minnesota Muskie Tournaments had another productive year at its rearing pond that is operated in cooperation with the Minnesota Muskie Guides Association, Frankie's Live Bait & Marine, and the Minnesota DNR. In May, 176 adult muskies were harvested with the assistance from a commercial angler and 15 volunteer tournament anglers. The Twin Cities Chapter of Muskies, Inc. provided the $1,200 necessary to pay for a professional to drag a 1000' x 10' seine net across the entire pond. The fish caught ranged in size from 25" to 32" in length and were worth a total of $7,000. The MN DNR transported the fish to White Bear Lake to be released. In June, Frankie Dusenka, of Frankie's Live Bait & Marine, restocked the pond with 10,000 two-inch muskie fry that were picked up from the MN DNR. Frankie continued to stock the pond with fathead minnows throughout the summer and fall to boost these muskies’ growth rate. This fall, the Twin Cities Chapter of Muskies, Inc. partnered up with the Minnesota Muskie Tournaments to purchase a 1100' x 10' seine with 1/2" mesh to speed up the harvest process and to prevent any fish from being missed in the netting. On November 5th, 50 volunteer chapter members and tournament anglers pulled the seine through the pond and came up with another 156 muskies from 26" to 33" worth a total of $8,000. These fish were also transported by the MN DNR to White Bear Lake for release. The Minnesota Muskie Tournaments would like to extend a special thanks to George Wahl of the Minnesota Muskie Expo for feeding all the volunteers at both harvests, to the volunteers, to Jeff Riedemann for the harvest expertise and guidance, to the Twin Cities Chapter of Muskies, Inc., the MN DNR, and especially to Frankie's Live Bait & Marine. Frankie's assistance in running such a successful rearing pond makes them the only marine store in the state actively contributing to the resource. This co-operative project has now stocked $45,000 into Metro area muskies lakes since 1997.
